Five Tips to a Stress Free Wedding Day

Yay, it’s your wedding day!  All the planning and preparation is complete and now it’s time to get married! It is easy to get swept up in the schedule and emotions of the day, that is why I am here to offer you the five tips to a stress free wedding day.

1. Have a Relaxing and Mindful Morning

If you’re anything like me, you probably won’t get much sleep the night before your wedding from all the nerves.  And if you do get a good night sleep, that’s awesome but having a relaxing and mindful morning on your wedding day is still important. I recommend a quick meditation with some deep breathing before getting out of bed, journaling about the upcoming day and visualize it all unfolding, or sitting and really enjoying your morning coffee or tea without your focus on anything else.  Why? Because science has proven that taking the time to be mindful and present in the moment positively influences our mood and what a great way to set the tone for your wedding day!

2. Eat Something

Make sure you eat something even if you have butterflies or you’re not a breakfast person.  If you don’t eat before getting ready it’s unlikely you’ll eat once you’re dressed.  Most couples don’t eat their dinner during the wedding reception because they’re greeting guests, dancing with parents, or cutting cake.  Food plays a large role in how we feel and act so having a healthy meal will aid you in staying relaxed.

3. Let Go of the Need to Control Everything

It makes sense to want to be the point of contact for your wedding day, but I’m here to tell you that it’s not necessary or worth it.  I know you’ve obsessed over the details, but now it’s time to let that all go.  Make a parent or a member of the wedding party the point of contact, or hire a day of coordinator.  You don’t need to be bothered with the small things because it will take you out of being present.

4. Set the Mood

The environment you’re getting ready in will strongly impact your mood.  Find a playlist with some of your favorite tunes or opt for a more zen station.  Light some candles or diffuse some of your favorite essential oils.  Science has proven that your environment can impact how you feel. In addition to helping you chill out, the next time you encounter these smells and sounds you’ll be transported back to your wedding day!

5. Make Space for Alone Time

I cannot stress (LOL isn’t this whole post about how to starve off the stress!?) this enough, it is so important to plan for alone during your wedding day.  If you don’t plan for it, it won’t happen! Two of my favorite ways to build alone time into your wedding day are to have a first look or to take ten minutes after the ceremony to be together without anyone else.  A first look helps calm down the pre-ceremony jitters and will allow time for portraits of just the two of you.  Taking ten minutes after the ceremony lets you be together without your guests watching your every move. Both of these help slow down the day and help you and your partner remain in the present moment.
